CNN's IN AMERICA series continues with "GARY AND TONY HAVE A BABY," a two-hour special tentatively slated to air June 24, 2010.
Gary and Tony are life-long gay activists. They also share a classic, traditional dream – marriage and a baby. Unable to legally marry in the U.S., they travel to Canada, get married, and spend thousands on an arduous journey toward parenthood via surrogacy and in vitro fertilization.
CNN anchor & special correspondent Soledad O’Brien finds that though Gary and Tony had hoped for a happy extended family, they discover instead ambivalence about same sex marriage. With court battles, and struggles against their hometown community – can these men achieve a life as mainstream as their parents?

Are you kidding me? Why? You will promote the "arduous journey" of activists? The only part of the two hour special that was eye opening was to what lengths CNN will go to promote political activists. Really? Using the newborn as a prop at a same-sex "marriage" rally? Who is going to investigate the emotional issues of children like this one in 10 to 12 years because of stunts like this one?
I for one am deeply offended! Not because two consenting adults are making decisions to behave in such a way, but because this achievment of a baby is used as another tool to advance a cause. CNN should be ashamed - you have been blinded by your joy and your rush to promote an ideology.
Congratulations to Gary, Tony, and little Nicholas! Such a sweet story.
What a wonderful thing- a beautiful baby, born to parents who obviously adore him, and who clearly love and support one other, as well.
For the record, I'm a generally conservative, straight mother of three, and have been married to my husband for 25 years. I know that, had our marriage been banned by a law, my husband and I would've done whatever we could to change them- for us, and for our children, as well.
Had our union not been legal, I imagine that might have been cause for our children to have "emotional issues".
Nicholas is a lucky baby- he has loving parents, and a wealth of loving relatives, and there's nothing wrong with that?
