Black in America 2 Radio Roundtable

SIRIUS XM Radio and CNN announced that Soledad O’Brien will moderate a Black in America 2 live radio roundtable on which she and notable guests from the African-American community — including educator Steve Perry and SIRIUS XM hosts Joe Madison and Mark Thompson — will examine different facets of the African-American experience in today’s world, continuing the conversation sparked by CNN’s acclaimed television series Black in America.

The Black in America 2 radio roundtable will air live July 21 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm ET on The Power, XM channel 169. It will rebroadcast on SIRIUS XM Stars, SIRIUS channel 102 and XM channel 155, on July 21 from 10:00 – 11:00 pm ET and July 22 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm ET. The broadcast will originate from SIRIUS XM’s New York studios.

O’Brien and her guests will open up the phone lines and invite SIRIUS XM’s diverse national audience to join the debate and dialogue, and to offer perspective from all ages, background and both genders. Topics will include education, health, and current events spanning social, political and cultural headlines and issues.

Soledad O’Brien is an anchor and special correspondent for CNN Worldwide. Since joining the network in 2003, O’Brien has reported breaking news from around the globe and has produced award-winning and record-breaking documentaries on the most important stories facing the world today. She also covers political news as part of CNN’s “Best Political Team on Television.”

Steve Perry, Ed.D is a renowned author, educator and speaker. Joe Madison hosts a daily, call-in show on The Power, XM channel 169. Madison is recognized as a human and civil rights activist, abolitionist against slavery in Sudan and genocide in Darfur, television commentator, columnist, lecturer, labor and corporate spokesman, musician, and athlete. Mark Thompson is the host of Make it Plain, a live daily call-in show on SIRIUS XM’s liberal channels on which he speaks passionately about political, social and economic issues from an African-American perspective. He is a minister and a political and human rights activist.

CNN will air the television companion series Black in America 2 on July 22 and July 23 at 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm ET.

On the Tom Joyner Morning Show Cruise, two Black in America 2 panel discussions were held. Soledad O'Brien, BIA2's anchor, hosted approximately 1150 passengers through discussions based on preview clips from Black In America 2.

Discussion Guides for CNN's "Black in America"


CNN premiered its two Black in America documentaries, "The Black Woman and Family" and "The Black Man," this week.

They offer a fresh analysis from new voices about the real lives behind the stereotypes, statistics and identity politics that frequently frame the national dialogue about Black America.



Parents and teachers should know that CNN is offering overview questions and discussion activities to facilitate discussion with your pre-teen and teenaged children.

In "The Black Woman & Family", Soledad O'Brien explores the varied experiences of black women and families and investigates the reasons behind the disturbing statistics on single parenthood, disparities between black and white students in schools, and the devastating toll of HIV/AIDS.
