Now that Soledad O’Brien is part of the team at HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,”it is a kind of NBC reunion for her. When Soledad was starting out, she was a staffer at NBC News and she produced some segments with the then Today show anchor Bryant Gumbel.
This is her first partnership with HBO as part of her new Starfish Media Group production company. HBO has a “first look” clause which gives the network the chance to buy or pass on on scripted programming and “long-form programming concepts” from O’Brien’s production company. This would include HBO buying real stories for dramatic films. HBO recently has done that for the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra and also for Game Change.
