Soledad Marks the 60th Anniversary of the Newport Jazz Festival

The National Archives takes note of the 60th anniversary of the Newport Jazz Festival with a seminar and film screening this past week as part of its year-long “Jazz at the National Archives” program.

Broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien moderated a panel discussion with Newport Jazz Festival founder George Wein, critic Dan Morgenstern, and musicians Christian McBride and Jonathan Batiste on the legacy of the event that continues again this summer

The day also featured a screening of the film “Jazz on a Summer’s Day,” about the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival.

O'Brien Moderates Panel at NY International Latino Film Festival

The 10th New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) Panel Discussion "HBO and CNN Present: A Conversation With..." was held at HBO Manhattan headquarters, on August 1, 2009.

The all-star panelists included actors Luiz Guzman, Rosie Perez and Lauren Velez and was moderated by CNN anchor and special correspondent Soledad O'Brien.

The panel discussed networking techniques in the film industry, Latino identity, past, and current projects. Artists, filmmakers, producers, digital recording artists, actors, industry executives, and friends of NYILFF attended the session.



CNN and CNN en Español presents "Latino in America," reported by anchor and special correspondent Soledad O'Brien. The two-part, two-hour documentary series will air on Wednesday, October 21, and Thursday, October 22, at 9:00 pm ET and 12:00 am PT.

CNN's Reclaiming the Dream

Today and tomorrow, CNN is premiering a panel discussion called "Reclaiming the Dream."

The program focuses on debates about the Black community in topics including, self-responsibility, social reform, education, etc. This panel discussion took place during the 2008 Essence Music Festival.

The forum was moderated by Soledad O'Brien and the panelists include influential leaders and activists including Cornel West, Hill Harper, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Ed Gordon, Juliane Malveaux, Bishop TD Jakes, Cheryle Jackson (Chicago Urban League), Jabali Sawicki (Excellence Charter School).

Party With A Purpose

Known as the “party with a purpose,” the ESSENCE Music Festival is the nation’s largest annual gathering of African-American musical talent. It features three days (July 4,5 &6) of cultural celebrations and empowerment seminars and three nights of performances by some of today’s greatest African-American artists.

Performances this year include Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, Rihanna, Chris Brown, LL Cool J, Chris Rock, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Patti Labelle, LL Cool J, and many more.

Empowering, free daytime seminars feature guests Bill Cosby, Dr. Juanita Bynum, Bishop T.D. Jakes, and Tyler Perry, Soledad O'Brien. Soledad will moderate the session on Saturday titled "Finding Solutions" with Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Jabali Sawicki, The Excellence Charter School, Dr. Robert M. Franklin, President of Morehouse College.
