Pharrell Williams and Soledad O'Brien Shining a Light in Charleston

O'Brien and Williams at an event in 2011
"Shining A Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America" brought Pharrell Williams to Charleston, South Carolina in late November to help further race relations. Award-winning journalist Soledad O'Brien joined Pharrell as they visited the Mother Emanuel AME Church and the Grammy winner performed his newest single "Freedom" with members of the congregation affected by the shooting tragedy in June.

"I was very interested in working with Pharrell," said Soledad. "We’ve been friends for a while, and we’ve had lots of deep and thoughtful discussions about race in America. To know that the Mother Emmanuel AME Church would allow us to come in and talk bluntly about the aftermath of the horrible massacre and dig deeply into difficult conversations about race in Charleston was an amazing opportunity."
