Soledad on HBO Real Sports

Sports is probably not the first topic you think of with Soledad O'Brien. But HBO's Real Sports recently announced that O'Brien will be a reporter on the monthly magazine show.

The program, anchored by Bryant Gumbel, will feature her first piece this month on war veterans who use martial arts to help cope with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Soledad's experiences with sports has been limited to her own running and equestrian activities (and some rugby while studying at Harvard) but she says that the new assignment is "exactly what I've been doing for a long time — telling stories about human beings and their struggles."

This collaboration with HBO is an early effort by her new production company, Starfish Media Group which will be creating and selling documentaries to networks. Those collaborations will include ones with CNN, such as continuing the popular Black in America series that she has been doing for CNN for several years.
