Soledad O'Brien with Malaak Compton-Rock

Soledad O'Brien with Malaak Compton-Rock, the wife of comedian Chris rock, and the founder of The Angel Rock Project, “an on-line e-village promoting volunteerism, social responsibility, and sustainable change.”

Recently on CNN’s “Black in America” series, Malaak was spotlighted for her humanitarian efforts. More specifically, Malaak’s charity, “Journey for Change,” was featured for sponsoring 30 underprivileged teens for a trip to South Africa where the teens did voluntary work for the even less fortunate.

Malaak, also created styleWORKS in October 1999 to provide women with enough confidence in their appearance to help them succeed. styleWORKS is a nonprofit support service for former welfare dependants who want to work but don't know how to present themselves at interviews or in office environments. "Self-esteem is very important for women coming off of welfare," says Malaak.
